Nagpur: Nagpur Police have adopted a strict stance against noise pollution ahead of upcoming festivals and celebrations. Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil has issued a notification under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, banning multilayer sound systems, as well as sound systems in the plasma and pressure mid categories.
A notification issued under Section 163 can remain in force for a maximum of 60 days. The order has been issued in view of various festivals and celebrations in the coming period. The police commissioner said action would be taken against these sound systems over the next 60 days and that the notification would be renewed if necessary.
The notification also covers multilayer DJs, laser lights and beam lights. A multilayer sound system has three levels—bass, medium and top. Police said the intense vibrations generated particularly by the bass may have adverse effects on health.

However, there is no ban on sound systems operated within the legally prescribed noise limits. Traditional musical instruments and music during festivals and celebrations have also not been prohibited. Action will be taken only against multilayer sound systems, plasma systems and pressure mid systems that cause noise pollution by violating the prescribed noise limits.
Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil appealed to citizens to celebrate festivals and celebrations with enthusiasm while following noise pollution regulations. In short, there is no ban on celebrations, but police will keep watch on deafening noise.
