MuttemwarNagpur: Jagatik Ahinsa Divas Ayojan Samiti and Nagpur City Congress Committee jointly organized a ‘Prarthana Sabha’ (Prayer Meeting) at Variety Square to mark death anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. The programme commenced with presentation of a number of Gandhi favourite songs by talented artists Surbhi and Sachin Dhomne. Thereafter, a host of dignitaries paid their homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

The function was presided over by City Congress President Vikas Thakre. Other dignitaries seated on the dais include Convener of Jagatik Ahinsa Divas Ayojan Samiti and former MP Vilas Muttemwar, former Minister Satish Chaturvedi, former Ministers Madhukar Kimmatkar, Haribhau Naik, former MLAs Yadavrao Deogade, Dr Avinash Varjurkar, Congress Sevadal Orginiser Ramgovind Khobragade, Mahila Congress City President Pradnya Badwaik, MPCY former General Secretary and President of Swayam Sevabhavi Sanstha Vishal Muttemwar and others.

Speaking on the occasion, the Convener of Jagatik Ahinsa Divas Ayojan Samiti Vilas Muttemwar said that on one hand the entire world is paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi and on the other hand, the BJP-ruled Goa Government is releasing a book ‘Nathuram Godsene khoon ka kela’ (Why Nathuram Godse committed the murder). Because of the country is known around the world in the name of Mahatma Gandhi, our Prime Minister, during his foreign visits, heaps praises on Gandhi. However, in the Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan advertisements, only Gandhi’s spectacle is displayed instead of his full photograph to deprive the young generation of Mahatma’s full identity.

Muttemwar (1)The issue needs to be brought before the people. In the nation of Mahatma Gandhi who gave mantra of ‘Sarvadharmasamabhav’ (religious harmony) and eradication of untouchability, certain elements in the present Government are indulging in intolerance all around. Even then, the present Government lacked the daring to question and seek answers from such elements. This is unfortunate, lamented Muttemwar and appealed the Congressmen to adopt Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts and ideals and learn the history of freedom struggle for reaching to the common people. This is need of the hour, asserted Muttemwar.

The ‘Prarthana Sabha’ programme concluded with the presidential speech by Vikas Thakre.
The programme, conducted by Dr Gajraj Hatewar, was attended by hundreds of Congress workers and citizens.
