Music, poetry marks Tagore’s birth anniversary

Nagpur News: Bengali community in Friends Colony celebrated the 153rd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on Sunday at the residence of Tarun Kumar Bose.

The programme was a medley of many immortal poems and songs penned by Tagore. The performers hailed from a wide age group. The attraction of the programme was 12-year old Nayanika Mukherjee and the oldest performer R M Majumdar who is a septuagenarian.  Other prominent performers who graced the function included Mondira Ganguly and Laboni Niyogi of Nikhil Bharat Sahitya Sammelan (NBSS). Both enthralled the audience with their self written compositions dedicated to the National Poet.

The programme was conceived with the aim of introducing the life and work of the National Poet Guru Rabindranath Tagore to the young generation. Earlier, the traditional lamp was lit by Dr M Roy to mark beginning of the programme. Tarun Bose conducted the function while Arun Bose proposed a vote of thanks.
