Nagpur: A murder convict lodged at open jail in Nagpur Central Prison on Monday escaped from the jail by giving slips to prison guards. The escaped murder convict, bald and wearing a blue-coloured Paragon chappal, is now subject of a massive hunt by city police.
Incidentally, the murder convict, Shamal Dinesh Siswas (40), was transferred to Nagpur open jail from Kolhapur prison on January 31, 2016.
Siswas was convicted by a Mumbai court in a case 953/2005 under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. He was awarded life imprisonment on March 17, 2003 and was lodged in a Kolhapur jail. However, on January 31, 2016, Siswas was transferred to Nagpur jail and was undergoing his life term in the open jail.
However, on Monday (February 27), between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm, the murder convict Shamal Siswas made his escape good by dodging the “watchful” eyes of the prison guards.
Details are awaited.
