Rohtak/Nagpur: Sukhvinder Narwhal, a national-level kabaddi player, was murdered in broad daylight in Rohtak district of Haryana by two unidentified men who came on a scooter and pumped bullets into him and the entire incident, which happened on Tuesday, has been caught on a CCTV installed near the player’s residence.
The footage of the incident, reported by NDTV, shows two unidentified men shoot at Sukhvinder from a scooter before getting off the vehicle to fire multiple shots. The player, who was talking to someone on his mobile phone, is seen collapsing to the ground after the first shot.The two men, who immediately fled the scene of the murder, are yet to be identified by the police.
The 24-year-old player was returning home after practice when he was shot dead last evening. “He was returning home when two people came on a two-wheeler and shot him just a few yards away from the house. By the time we reached the spot, he was already dead,” Sukhvinder’s father Chander Singh is quoted, as saying in India Today.
Police said a murder case has been registered against unidentified persons and a hunt has been launched to nab the killers.
This isn’t the first case of a murder of a kabaddi player in the state. Deepak Kumar, a state level kabaddi player, also from Rohtak district in Haryana was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne men in December 2015. Deepak who remained unattended for a while, succumbed to the injuries during the preliminary treatment, according to a report by Times of India.
Both the murders happened when the players were returning from practice and with nobody for help in close vicinity. The fact that the killers of both these players arrived on a two-wheeler make the similarities between the incidents even more eerie.
Rohtak has come up as a hotbed of kabaddi talent in the country and has produced players like Deepak Niwas Hooda, who starred for the Puneri Paltan in the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi recently, while also bagging a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games held in Bangladesh with the Indian National team.
