Mumbai:
After few more deaths reported during the rescue operations, the death toll in collapse of Bhendi Bazar situated multi-storey structure has mounted to 21.

The deceased include 13 males and three females, a senior police official said.

They were declared dead at the state-run J J hospital, where they were taken after being pulled out from the debris of the building that crashed at Bhendi Bazaar in South Mumbai, he said.

As is being stated by the sources, the building was overdue for demolition. Fire brigade officials said some nine families lived in the dilapidated Husaini Building. Some media reports said it also housed a play-school but children had not arrived yet when the tragedy occurred.

A notice to vacate the building was issued to tenants. Fifty per cent had vacated the building while the rest remained, informed the sources. CM Devendra Fadanavis has announced ex-gratia of five lakh for the families of those who died.
