
Nagpur: A routine electricity bill recovery drive in Nagpur’s Yashodhara Nagar area took an ugly turn after a consumer allegedly abused and manhandled a woman electricity department employee and her team during a disconnection operation.
Police have registered a case and arrested the accused following the incident.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon around 2 pm in the Mehboobpura area near Tipu Sultan Chowk under Yashodhara Nagar Police Station limits.
According to police, Satyabhama Wankhede, who works as a Principal Technician with the electricity distribution department, had reached the locality along with her team to recover pending electricity dues and disconnect power supply of defaulters.
During the operation, accused Ashpak Mohammad Jumman Ansari allegedly came out of his house and objected to the action being taken against his electricity connection.
Police said the situation quickly escalated, with the accused allegedly hurling obscene abuses at the woman employee and her staff. He is also accused of pushing and physically intimidating members of the recovery team during the confrontation.
Following the commotion, the accused reportedly fled from the spot. However, based on the complaint lodged by the victim, Yashodhara Nagar Police registered a case and later arrested him.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
