Nagpur: In a major decision aimed at public interest, the State Government has decided to provide MSEDCL and MSETCL the lands at nominal rate of Re 1 for setting up projects to provide basic electricity facilities to people.

Announcing the decision, the Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that both these companies MSEDCL and Mahatransco will not have to purchase lands for for providing basic power facilities and setting up of sub-power centres as the government lands will be made available to them under various schemes and within sanctioned projects that too at a nominal rate of Re 1 only. Maharashtra State will be first state in the country to arrive at such decision, Bawankule said at a press conference held in Mumbai on Tuesday.

“The decision will greatly relieve both the companies as well as common people. I am very thankful to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse for facilitating such a public interest decision. It is the responsibilty of State Government to provide electricity at a suitable rate to common people. Hence it was necessary to make lands available for these two companies at nomimnal rate for setting up their projects.

Buying of lands at market rate affects the project cost and ultimately the power tariff. The decision will not increase the costs of the projects as well as power tariff. The MSEDCL and MSETCL will be provided government lands for a 30-year lease period at a nominal rate of Re 1,” the Energy Minister said.
