Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) severely criticized the Central Government for steep increase in petrol and diesel prices. “After delivering a ‘Big Zero’ in General Budget the Government betrayed the common man by increasing petrol and diesel prices by more than three rupees. That too within hours of presenting the General Budget,” said the MPCC Spokesman Sachin Sawant.

“Modi Government failed to provide any benefit to common man despite sharp decline in oil prices. People’s saving was diverted to Government’s coffers. The policy of the Government appears to be “to talk curbing inflation but in reality, the policy appears to put maximum burden on poor people. The balloon of promises got punctured in the General Budget and the hike in petrol and diesel prices nailed the final keel. This Government is looting the poor and filling the coffers of corporates by lowering the Corporate Tax,” thundered Sawant while reacting to the steep hike.
