MP farmer thrashed, robbed of Rs 1 lakh in Kalamna Market; shop owner, other booked

Nagpur: A farmer from Madhya Pradesh, who had come to city for selling his produce, was beaten up and robbed of Rs 1 lakh in Kalamna Market on Tuesday. Cops have booked a shop owner and his accomplice in this connection.

The victim farmer, Ramesh Sitaram Pawar (55), native of Kodai, Tahsil Saunsar, District Chhindwada (MP), along with other farmers, was sleeping in front of Chandramaprasad & Company’s Shop No. 6 in Kalamna Market on Tuesday. Around 0030 hours, the accused identified as Bunty Chandramaprasad and his accomplice reached the spot and woke up Ramesh and other farmers. The accused shouted at Ramesh and said “Maal dusre ke taraf bechta hai aur sone yah ape aata hai” (Produce sells elsewhere and sleeps here). With these words, the accused Bunty and his friend started beating Ramesh and also snatched Rs 1,00,775 from his pocket. Another farmer Pralhad Patel, who was sleeping along with Ramesh, was attacked with a knife and inflicted injury on hand when he tried to intervene in the matter.

Kalamna PSI Dere, based on a complaint of Ramesh, registered an offence against accused Bunty Chandramaprasad and his accomplice under Sections 394, 34 of IPC and searching for them.
