An elderly woman was knocked dead by a rashly driven motorcycle on Friday afternoon. The young motorcyclist was arrested by Wadi police after the accident. Wadi police informed that the deceased Shantabai Natthuji Manmode (70), a native of Khapa was walking through Katol bypass road, in front of Madina Hotel on Friday at 1.30 pm when a speeding motorcycle Splendor (MA 40 M 9970) hit the elderly woman from behind. Shantabai fell unconscious with the impact of the accident. Commuters took her to nearby Dande hospital while some onlookers caught hold of the motorcyclist Mohd Danish Munna Qureshi (26), a resident of Sai Nagar, Wadi.
Shantabai died after struggling for survival for few hours. Meanwhile, the accused was handed over to Wadi police. On the basis of the complaint by Bhagwanji Gohte (21), cops have registered a case under Sections 279, 304 (a) of the IPC.
