Mother-daughter duo caught red-handed while stealing woman’s purse in auto at Sitabuldi

Nagpur: A mother-daughter duo was caught red-handed while stealing purse of a woman in an auto in front of Moonlight Showroom on Friday afternoon. Both the accused, hailing from Chhattisgarh, were later handed over to Sitabuldi police.

A resident of Vishal Tower, Bezonbagh, Manorama Jagannath Jambhulkar (62) and her nephew boarded an auto at Reserve Bank for going towards Sitabuldi around 1 pm on Friday. The two accused Vandana Vijay Gaekwad (50) and Simran Vijay Gaekwad both natives of Raipur, Chhattisgarh, were also travelling in the same auto. As the auto reached in front of Moonlight Showroom, the accused slyly opened bag of Manorama and tried to steal her purse containing valuables. However, the attempt to steal the purse got foiled as alert Manorama and her nephew caught them red-handed and raised alarm. Later, the mother-daughter duo was handed over to Sitabuldi police.

Police constable Uike, based on Manorama’s complaint, booked the accused under Sections 379, 511, 34 of the IPC and placed them under arrest.
