The Key Speaker Moiz Haque,HOD, Mass Comm Dept, RTMNU, former Journalist with 20 year’s experience in various capacities in Newspapers like Indian Express, Hitavada, The Peninsula Qatar and The SundayObserver to name few talked about the Media revolution that is taking place and its relevance in Today’s Business Marketing strategies.
Moiz said, “The New Media i.e Social networking sites, blogging, podcasts, photosharing, youtube, Linkedin, facebook, wikipedia and flicker have broken the monopoly of traditional media and have created store houses of content without creating any content at all. It is an upside down model of creation when compared to the traditional models.”
He added that New Media is technology driven but human powered, earlier the people were not in a position to get rid of the typecast and repeated news but that has been set right by the New Media.Indiawill add About 72 million social networking site users by 2014.New Media is giving a platform to create and participate to the users. Common man has become the news creator, opinion leader, subject expert and an initiator.
Beauty of New Media is that there is no entry barrier, equal opportunity to all and collective knowledge sharing which is having a huge impact in today’s scenario. Some facts by PriceWaterhouse coopers study tells that the Penetration of people to Television is 11.4%, Print Media-5.6%, Radio-18% and the Internet has whopping 32%.
This medium is very fast becoming powerful communication tool which cannot be ignored.
Some 167 million people shopped on line in 2012 and it will increase to 192 million by 2016. 65% of the world’s top companies have an active Twitter Profile.
