Nagpur:
No sooner are the elections to the post of MLC from local self- governing bodies declared than the voters from small parties and independents too have become active to make their power of vote valuable and choose the right candidate. In other words, each voter from this band (independents and small-party) has become more important than others in this election.

It may be mentioned that NMC has 145 voters while Zilla Parishad has 59 voters and Nagar Parishad has 263 voters. Of total 467 voters, BJP has 205 while the rest 262 voters comprise Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena, BSP and certain small parties as well as independents.

There are about 18 voters from small parties and independents in the NMC claiming their allegiance to BJP. But, of them 14 are said to be dissidents and they are in the air that they can prove decisive votes for MLC.

Similar is the temperament of certain voters in Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis. They too do not want to miss the value of their voting power.

The MCL candidates also know this fact and they keep on eyeing them to gain their favour. Though the BJP has majority in NMC and Zilla Parishad, the BJP candidate for MLC (name not yet announced) will have to work hard to win the favour of independents and small-party voters.
