Mira Bhayander election results: BJP won the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation election with 61 seats. Shiv Sena and Congress manage to secure 22 and 10 seat respectively. Amidst heavy rain, the poll witnessed a voter turnout of 47 percent. During the first half only 26 percent voters exercised their franchise, however, the number increased in the second half. Notably, in 2012, the turnout was similar to this years- 46.99 per cent. As per the Indian Express report, the Congress had secured one seat unopposed and hence the polls were held only for the 94 seats on Sunday. The Congress bagged the seat after the returning officer rejected the nominations of BJP and Sena candidates due to caste certificate issues. A total of 509 candidates are contesting for the 94 seats.

While BJP is contesting the polls along with Republican Party of India (RPI) led by Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP are contesting the polls separately. According to IE report, BJP is contesting for 90 seats while four seats have been given to RPI. Moreover, Shiv Sena has fielded candidates in all the seats, Congress in 75 and NCP in 67.

Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, Shiv Sena, Congress, and NCP leaders objected to local BJP legislator Narendra Mehta visiting a polling booth after the polls were over. According to Indian Express report, “Mehta was inside the booth for almost half an hour. We objected to the returning officer and police authorities. An inquiry must be conducted to know what he was doing inside after polling time was over,” said Sarnaik adding the school belonged to Mehta. “My office is located on the same premises. So, I went to my office and not the booth,” claimed Mehta.
