Nagpur: A shocking case involving the alleged rape of a minor girl on the pretext of marriage has come to light from the jurisdiction of Ajni Police Station, where a 17-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her fiancé and later found to be pregnant.
Police have arrested the accused and registered a case under stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Anshul Ramchandra Londhe, a resident of Bhandara district. Investigators said both families had reportedly arranged the engagement of the accused and the minor girl on March 18, 2025, after which the two started meeting frequently.
Police said the accused allegedly visited the victim’s house on November 30, 2025, where he forced himself on the girl and established physical relations against her will.
According to the complaint, when the minor objected and told him that such relations should not take place before marriage, the accused allegedly assured her that they were going to get married anyway and then sexually assaulted her.
Investigators revealed that the victim’s family was already facing difficult circumstances. The girl’s father was allegedly addicted to alcohol, and due to the troubled atmosphere at home, the teenager reportedly left without informing her family in April 2026 and went with the accused to Bhandara district.
Police said the two stayed together there for nearly a month. During this period, the girl’s health reportedly deteriorated, following which she was taken to a hospital for medical examination. Doctors allegedly discovered that the minor girl was pregnant.
Officials said the accused was fully aware that the victim was underage, making the sexual relationship a serious offence under the POCSO Act irrespective of consent or engagement.
After receiving the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and other applicable laws. The accused, Anshul Londhe, was taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
Police are also recording statements of family members and collecting medical and forensic evidence related to the case.
