Nagpur:
With stray animal menace at Nagpur Airport occupying headlines in local newspapers and other media the Chairman & Managing Director of MIHAN India Ltd (MIL) Vishwas M Patil reviewed the working of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in the city during his visit on December 8.

The MIHAN India Ltd (MIL) operates Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport at Nagpur. The MIL CMD Patil took stock of the situation at the Airport and discussed some contentious points with the officers and MIL. The main focus of the meeting was regarding the animal menace which has been reported in various sections of media, a couple of days ago.

Abadhesh Prasad, Sr. Airport Director, briefed Patil and brought to his notice that during the visit of President of India Pranab Mukherjee on 14/09/2015, it was observed that a herd of pigs was crossing the runway after the aircraft carrying the President was landing at this Airport. Since then, MIL has taken various initiatives for chasing away the pigs and other stray animals which probably gain entry from the Indian Airport Force area and the link taxi way constructed by MADC connecting the existing Airport with the M.R.O. area of MIHAN Project.

It was also informed to CMD that the Forest Department also assisted MIL in this activity. Patil was also briefed about various works done during the last two months with reference to removal of grass/bushes and complete eradication of pigs/wild animals from the airport. Solar fence is already installed since last three years. Besides, trenches were dug along the line of fence so that no animal can reach up to the runway. Runway guards were put at every opening on 24×7 duties.

Later, the CMD personally visited the operational area of airport including perimeter road along the compound wall. He directed officers of MIL to initiate correspondence with both, the Indian Air Force as well as the Maharashtra Airports Development Company (MADC) Ltd. to take corrective actions from their end to avoid such incidents in future.
