What Happened?
According to reports, MHADA had appointed Deals My Property in 2022 to assist beneficiaries under its housing lottery schemes. The agency was tasked with helping allottees complete the post-lottery formalities—such as documentation, home loan processing, and other administrative procedures—free of cost. In return, the agency was entitled to a 3.5% commission on every house sale paid directly by MHADA.
However, instead of offering free assistance, the agency allegedly demanded illegal payments from over 150 beneficiaries, promising faster allotment and completion of housing processes. Victims claim the agency collected lakhs of rupees in the name of “service charges” and “processing fees.”
Beneficiaries Cheated, Documents Not Submitted
Despite receiving commissions from MHADA, the agency reportedly neither submitted the required documents nor deposited the funds collected from the beneficiaries to MHADA’s account. As a result, several low-income beneficiaries—who had dreamt of owning a MHADA home—were left in financial distress and uncertainty.
Victims Running Pillar to Post
For the past year, victims have been shuttling between MHADA offices and the agency’s premises, seeking answers. Each side allegedly shifted blame onto the other, causing immense hardship to the affected citizens. Mounting complaints eventually forced MHADA to take action.
Police Complaints Filed
So far, 17 separate complaints have been filed against the agency’s director at Sitabuldi Police Station. MHADA’s management has also lodged a formal complaint. Following the revelations, MHADA terminated its contract with Deals My Property in September 2025. However, by then, the director had already disappeared with the money. Police are now searching for him.
The incident has raised serious questions about MHADA’s monitoring of private contractors and the lack of oversight that allowed such a scam to unfold under an official government housing scheme.
