The Second Capital City of Nagpur boasts of having one of the biggest hospitals in Asia. The mega structure and sprawling premises have put the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in elite list of hospitals. However, at the same time, the GMCH has always been headlines, albeit, for sprawling garbage, filth, bloody medical waste outside and also for unhygienic conditions inside the hospital.

Till now the excuse for dirty conditions in GMCH was staff crunch. But the GMCH authorities, in order to get rid of suffocating, dirty atmosphere and nauseating filth, purchased an automatic cleaning machine. But here also the GMCH authorities created a hell of mess. They purchased the cleaning machine at the cost of Rs 11.50 lakh. But the actual cost of the machine is Rs 5 lakh in market.

For cleaning one mess, the authorities have created another.

According to sources, the automatic cleaning machine was purchased from a Mumbai private company in March 2013. The machine has been deployed in the GMCH. The machine is costliest possession of GMCH so far. Sources further said the cost of machine has been shown as very less on papers. The papers were tampered with by concerned authorities.

When the hawker of Mumbai’s private company Sudhir Deshmukh was contacted for his comments, he said the real price of the machine is Rs 5 lakh. There could be slight difference the machine being of different company. But the cost of machine is certainly not Rs 11.50 lakh, sources said.

According to insiders, the contractor (private company) provides a big bounty to concerned authorities plus air tours to their favourite destinations. A hot talk is raging in the GMCH over the alleged scam involving purchase of the machine at the cost of Rs 11.50 lakh.

The cleaning machine, according to information received from Dean’s office, went dead twice since March 2013. However, authorities did not utter a single word about the repairing bill amount. When the bills were demanded from the authorities, they rejected the demand on the protocol grounds.
