An OCW spokesperson said that eight major leakages had been detected on Kanhan water treatment plant’s (WTP’s) main feeder lines between Automotive Square and Minimata Nagar overhead tank. “In a bid to save water that has been going waste since last many days, we have decided to take a 24-hour shutdown from 10am on January 2 to 10am on January 3,” he said.

The spokesperson further said that major leakages detected were at valve at Minimata Nagar branch, branch feeder at Kalamana overhead tank, 700mm feeder line behind Kalamna overhead tank, valve near Shanti Nagar nullah, feeder near Wanjara gate on Ring Road, feeder line near Automotive Square, Aakashwani on Kamptee Road and inlet valve of Bastarwari overhead tank.

During this shutdown period, Kanhan WTP will remain totally non-operational for 24 hours. Water supply in affected areas will be normalized on January 3 evening only and supply through tankers shall also not be possible in affected areas during shutdown period. OCW has appealed people from affected areas to store sufficient water for their use and also requested for their cooperation during the shutdown period.
