Nagpur: Atul Gupta, a young singer and entrepreneur based in Nagpur is the ‘man in form’ these days. Barely 21, Gupta is the director-cum-CEO of Young Homie, a music production company based in the outskirts of the city at Kalpana Nagar, in the northern part of Nagpur. Established on October 26, 2019, services such as music production, audio and video production, editing, dubbing, film making are rendered in his company. In a candid conversation with Nagpur Today Correspondent, Atul throws light on his interests, his journey so far, his priorities ahead and other aspects. Excerpts:

How did you perceive of music as a career option?

Singing had been my passion right from childhood. During my school and college days, I used to regularly participate in competitions in which I performed fairly well. This resulted in further interest in the field and thoughts of making a career in this profession began to nurture in my mind.

Weren’t parents and relatives concerned? Given that such careers are not everyone’s cup of tea in a middle class family?

As a conventional career option I had taken admission in a graduation course in the faculty of Law but eventually decided to pursue music and allied work as a full time career option. Initially hesitant, my parents and relatives ultimately began to understand my intense passion and aptitude for music. Finally, they ended up fully supporting my initiatives.

What exactly are the services rendered by your esteemed firm?

Initially, we started with catering to clients in areas such as audio and video production, editing, dubbing, film making etc. But later on as part of an initiative to realise our full potential, we gradually started producing our own music, videos and content. Fusion of traditional Indian as well as western music is also among our priorities now and we are working to a significant extent in this concern. Anuv Jain, Vir Das and other Mumbai based clients and artists are among our satisfied customers. As far as clients based abroad are concerned, we have not yet catered to them but are thinking of doing so in future.

Which singers do you consider as your idols?

I am mesmerised by the singing of several Indian singers, especially Arijit Singh and A R Rehman. Among foreign artists I admire Justin Beiber.

Where do you perceive your organisation will be in the next 5 or 10 years?

We have a young, skilled and highly talented team. In the long term as well as in the short term, we are heavily focusing on song writing, original music, marketing, content creation and gradually we think that by moving from strength to strength, we shall be among the top music production firms in the country. Although ours is a recently established start up, yet with dedicated hard work we are coming of age and shall strive to be among the best, opined Gupta. Establishing branches in tier II cities shall also be an area of focus in the near future.

Could you elaborate on your ‘pillars of support’?
Wynk company has rendered us support all through our ups and downs. Apart from them, my parents, relatives, friends, colleagues and especially Prashant Marathe have stood beside me through times thick and thin.

Any message for budding young artists?

Initially one must pursue their hobbies and passions side by side and give first priority to accomplishing good education. So tightrope walking is a must in such circumstances. Normally if we hail from a middle class family, our relatives and parents are too protective and ask us to choose a conventional career option. But if by pursuing our hobby or passion, if one is convinced that he/she can definitely make a career in it, then one must go for it as a full time career option. Else, do a tightrope walking between profession and passion.
