Nagpur: Mayor Nanda Jichkar has directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) sanitation department to initiate action against Kanak Resources Limited — the firm entrusted with door-to-door garbage collection — for not visiting many areas in Prabhag numbers 2 and 3.

As a part of her ongoing campaign ‘Mayor at your doorstep’, Jichkar on Wednesday visited Republican Nagar, Warpakhad Nagar, Misal Layout, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Colony, Sahyog Nagar, Sugat Nagar, Baba Deepsingh Nagar, Nari village, Dixit Nagar, Santosh Nagar, Uppalwadi and localities alongside Pili River bank in Prabhag numbers 2 and 3.

She was accompanied by chairmen of health and water committees Manoj Chafle, Pintu Zalke, senior corporators Sunil Agrawal, Manoj Sangole, Dinesh Yadav, Parsaram Manwatkar, Neha Nikose, Naseem Bano and assistant municipal commissioner Vijay Humne. Residents of Sugat Nagar told the mayor they are forced to dump garbage alongside roads or in any open plots.

They also complained that the NMC has failed to provide tap water and they have to depend on tankers. Babadeep Singh Nagar residents pointed at the pathetic condition of roads near Gurudwara, which leads to many accidents.

Residents also demanded retaining walls alongside Pili river in Nari locality. Dixit Nagar residents demanded the mayor to develop a garden along with installation of green gym. Garib Nawaz residents drew attention towards unhygienic condition around NMC hospital in their locality.
