Nagpur: Sensation and panic gripped Central Avenue road area early Tuesday morning when an elderly man, reportedly a retired architect was shot at point blank range by a masked man. Five rounds were reportedly fired at the man identified as as Eknath Dharmaji Nimgade, 72, resident of CA Road. One of the bullets reportedly pierced through his body . The incident happened behind a petrol pump at Agrasen Bhawan Square on CA road. The profusely bleeding victim was rushed to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical. The victim’s son is identified as Advocate Anup Nimgade and a practicing lawyer.
According to information available so far, one masked youth approached the 72-year-old retired architect and fired 4-5 rounds at him.
Sources said that Eknath Nimgade was going somewhere on his scooty. When he was passing the spot behind the Petrol Pump situated on Agrasen Bhavan Square, a masked man approached the victim on a black coloured Honda Activa scooter. The masked man spoke to the victim for around a minute and a half and suddenly whipped out his fire-arm (mouser or country-made-pistol) and fired on his hand.
One bullet has allegedly passed through the victim’s chest and stomach. As soon as the information broke out, Tehsil Police Station rushed the crime scene. When they arrived at the spot, the victim was spotted fallen down profusely bleeding and the TVS Scooty’s motor was running.
The cops from the Nagpur Crime Branch too had arrived on the spot and are investigating the case. The area has been cordoned off. The police personnel have recovered four casings of the bullet fired on the victim. Sources revealed that the bullets are of 7.65 mm (Mouser or Luger pistol). Police sources claim that there are some eye-witnesses to the entire incident too.
While the cops are investigating the case from all angles, sources in police assume that old-enmity with either the victim or his son could be cause of this firing incident. With the firing sensation prevailed in the CA Road area.
