Unable to bear the constant physical and verbal torture from her husband and in-laws, a 25 year old woman married woman ended her life. Her husband would allegedly curse her over her color complexion and looks.

Police sources informed that Savita Shailesh Nakade (25), a resident of Lalganj Kumbharpura near Lord Hanuman Temple, got married with Shailesh (28) just a year ago. Soon after the marriage, Savita’s dream of happy married life shattered as she came to terms with her husband, mother-in-law Sulochana and sister-in-law Archana Lonkar. The family often bother Savita over trivial issues.

Shailesh reportedly passed remarks like “You are black, ugly faced, you should die, I don’t like you”. Moreover he often beat Savita. The in-laws too would hurl abuses on her.

Sources informed Shailesh was having affair with another girl. Savita might have taken her husband’s words rather more seriously and took the drastic step. She consumed poison on the night of June 27 in her house. The family rushed her to Kidmat Hospital in Shanti Nagar. As Savita’s condition started to deteriorate, she was shifted to Mayo Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

Lakadganj police had earlier registered a case of accidental death. However, on the complaint of Ashok Jagatramji Chatap (29), a resident Gram Mahuli, Parseoni Tehsil, Nagpur District, the police registered an offence against Shailesh, in-laws under Sections 498A, 306, 34 of IPC for harassing and abetting suicide. Police are further investigating the matter and trying to find out if the bone of contention was dowry.
