
Nagpur: The Social Security Branch (SSB) of the Nagpur Crime Branch arrested a man for illegally possessing firearms during a patrol operation in the Nandanvan police station area on Wednesday night.
According to police officials, between 8:00 pm and 9:45 pm on March 5, 2026, officers of the Crime Branch Social Security Squad were patrolling the area when they received specific information about a suspect possessing illegal weapons. Acting on the tip-off, the team raided Flat No. 103, Parijat Shine Apartment near Hasanbag Police Chowki in Nandanvan.
During the search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, the police found two firearms along with magazines and three live cartridges in the possession of the accused identified as Kasif Gani Sheikh Habib Sheikh (36).
Police seized the weapons along with a mobile phone, with the total value of the seized property estimated at around Rs 73,000.
Since the accused was allegedly carrying the weapons with the intention of committing a cognizable offence and had violated prohibitory orders, a case has been registered against him at Nandanvan Police Station under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. The accused has been arrested and handed over to the Nandanvan Police for further investigation.
The team included API Shivaji Nannaware, Head Constable Sheshrao Raut, Constables Kunal Masram, Ashwin Mange, Sameer Sheikh, Kunal Bodkhe, and WPC Aarti Chavan.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil.
