Nagpur: A young man was killed and his wife seriously injured when a speeding Mahindra Bolero driver went berserk and hit their motorcycle on Sunday night. The reckless driver also crashed his vehicle onto another motorcycle injuring two youths critically. The chain of accidents occurred near Salt Factory on Gangabai Ghat in Lakadganj area of city. The driver of the killer vehicle has not been arrested yet.
The husband-wife victims Manoj Yadavrao Bante (30) and Pradnya Manoj Bante (28), residents of Bidgaon, Kamptee, Nagpur, were returning home from Mahal on their motorcycle (MH-31/BS 4584) around 9 pm on Sunday. When Manoj and Pradnya reached near Salt Factory on Gangabai Ghat Road the speeding Mahindra Bolero (MH-49/D 2578), driven recklessly by Sachin Narayanrao Zilpe of Nandanvan, rammed their two-wheeler head-on with great impact. Both Manoj and Pradnya received serious injuries and were rushed to Mayo Hospital. However, Manoj was pronounced ‘brought dead’ while Pradnya is being treated for her injuries. Similarly, the out of control vehicle crashed onto another Honda Shine motorcycle (MH-49/V 2569)and injured the riders Sagar Kashinath Patil (21) and Nikhil Omprakash Barapatre (20), both residents of Lalganj. Sagar was immediately taken to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital while Nikhil was admitted to Rahate Hospital.
Lakadganj Senior PSI Wankhede, based on a complaint lodged by Pradnya Bante, booked the accused driver Sachin Zilpe under Sections 279, 337, 338, 304(A), 427 of the IPC and probing the matter further.
