Man held, wife booked for duping investors of over Rs 60 lakh in Pachpaoli

Nagpur: Pachpaoli Police on Monday arrested a middle aged man and booked his wife for floating a ponzi scheme and duping investors of over Rs 60.67 lakh.

Identified as Jitendranath alias Jitu Lalluram Gupta (45) and his wife Anjana alias Anju Gupta (38), the accused are the residents of Plot No 201, Siddhi Colony, Ashok Nagar, near Rammanohar Lohia Library, Pachpaoli.

The accused Gupta couple opened an office at Gond Mohalla, Ashok Nagar, three years ago. The couple then lured people to invest in ‘Sufi Fund Scheme’ by promising them high returns in a short span of time. Between November 20, 2019 and December 5, 2022, the accused collected investments on a daily basis from over 342 persons through pygmy agents and defrauded them to the tune of Rs 60. 67 lakh.

Mahesh Lotanprasad Gupta (51), a relative of the accused and one of the victims, in his complaint stated that Jitendranath and his wife Anjana threatened him and other investors of dire consequences when they demanded to refund their invested amount.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by the victims, police registered a case under Sections 420, 406, 294, 504, 506(b) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 3 of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, against Gupta couple. Later, cops arrested Jitendranath Gupta. Further investigations are underway.
