
Nagpur: Crime Branch Unit No. 5 busted an illegal domestic gas cylinder refilling and black-marketing racket in Pardi area on Sunday afternoon and arrested a 36-year-old man, seizing material worth Rs 3.38 lakh.
According to police, between 1.20 pm and 2.30 pm on January 12, the Crime Branch team was on routine patrolling when it received specific and reliable information about illegal activities involving domestic LPG cylinders. Acting swiftly, the team conducted a raid in the jurisdiction of Pardi police station at Galli No. 6, Plot No. 83, near Gurudev Pan Stall, Pardi.
During the raid, the accused, identified as Rajan Suritalal Patel (36), a resident of the same area, was caught red-handed while illegally decanting gas from domestic LPG cylinders into an auto-rickshaw using refilling equipment. Police said the accused was stockpiling household gas cylinders and refilling them into other containers and vehicles for personal financial gain, in clear violation of norms.
From the spot, police seized four partially filled HP gas domestic cylinders, two Indian Oil gas cylinders, a refilling machine, two weighing scales, one mobile phone and a three-wheeler auto-rickshaw bearing registration number MH-49 AR 2119. The total value of the seized material is estimated at Rs 3.38 lakh.
A case has been registered against the accused at Pardi police station under Section 287 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The accused has been arrested and handed over to Pardi police along with the seized property for further legal action.
