Man from Gondia village burnt alive over land dispute; Victim serious with 99% burns

A land dispute turned gory when few anti social elements set fire to a man after pouring petrol on him in Kavlewada village in Gondia district. The severely burnt man was rushed to Government Medical Hospital here. Sanjay’s condition with 90% burns is reportedly serious. The 48 year old victim identified as Sanjay Khobragade is struggling for his life. The food and civil supplies minister who is also guardian minister of Gondia district, Anil Deshmukh reached hospital to visit the victim. He is undergoing treatment at government medical college, Nagpur.

The incident occurred in Gondia district, under jurisdiction of Gangazari police station, in Kavlewada village. The victim Sanjay Khobragade had kept his 4 acre land for religious purpose. Some people of the village had picked up quarrel with Khobragade over the land issue. The matter had reached local body, gram panchayat. But the issue was not resolved. The anti-social elements were threatening Sanjay time and again with dire consequences. To end the issue Khobragade had even agreed to waive some party of land in favour of the people as demanded. This also failed to please the anti-social elements. Owing to the summer season, Sanjay had his bed outside. On the Friday night around 2.45 am Sanjay’s wife heard his desperate calls and came out. She saw Sanjay burning and tried to douse fire with water. The neighbours also rushed to her helped. Sanjay was taken to KTS Hospital, Gondia. Learning about the incident, Gangazari police also reached the hospital.

1223456 (1)Taking note of the seriousness of the issue, naib tehsildar, V R Fund recorded the statement of the victim in presence of police personnel. In his statement, Sanjay said that he was set afire while he was sleeping outside the house. Police promptly registered offence under sections, 307, 143,147,148 of IPC. The names of accused as recorded by police are, Rushipal Tembhre, Madhuri Tembhre, Bhaulal Harinkhede, Shriprakash Rahangadale, Punajee Thakre, Hemant Thakre. Except for Madhuri all the accused have been arrested.

Civic body member Prakash Gajbhiye also called upon Sanjay Khobragade at Govt Medical College.

Prakash Ambedkar visits hospital

Indian Republican Party, Bahujan Mahasangh national president, Prakash Ambedkar reached Nagpur on Monday evening. He immediately went to Medical College and called upon Sanjay Khobragade, who has received serious burn injuries in the incident at Gondia and is fighting for his life. While talking to reporters Prakash Ambedkar said that Sanjay has so far disclosed names of five persons to police. He said that but it is essential that names of all the persons involved in crime should be disclosed and the matter should be tried in fast track court and a government pleader be immediately appointed for this. The family should be rehabilitated in some different village so that the witnesses are not pressurised.

Prakash Ambedkar also demanded that the properties of persons involved in this crime should be seized so that no one dares to commit such crime any time in future. The condition of Sanjay Khobragade, fighting for life is stated to be serious.
