Man files nomination as BJP candidate for Nagpur LS seat

Nagpur: There was a surprising development on the first day of filing nomination papers for the Lok Sabha election as one Venkateshwar Mahaswami submitted papers claiming to be the official candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Nagpur, a report in a local daily said.

BJP City President Bunty Kukde said such claims are baseless. BJP has already declared Union Minister Nitin Gadkari as its candidate from Nagpur.

According to the District Administration, even 20 candidates can file nomination papers claiming they are the official candidate of a political party, however names will be finalized only after verification of documents which will be done on March 28.

No nominations were filed in Bhandara-Gondia, Gadchiroli-Chimur, Ramtek, and Chandrapur on the first day.

March 27 is the deadline for filing nominations, followed by verification of documents on March 28. Last day for withdrawing nominations is March 30. The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections will be held on April 19.

The nomination process for 102 Parliamentary constituencies spread across 21 states and Union territories, including Nagpur and Ramtek, where polling would be held in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, began on Wednesday with the issuance of a notification.
