Nagpur: In a significant administrative reshuffle across Maharashtra’s judiciary, the Bombay High Court has appointed M.S. Azmi as the new Principal District and Sessions Judge, Nagpur. Azmi, who is currently serving as the Member Secretary of the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), will now head the Nagpur District Judiciary.
The appointment is part of a large-scale transfer and posting exercise involving several senior judicial officers across the State, announced by the High Court through a notification issued on August 5. The reshuffle is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of judicial administration.

As part of the changes, the incumbent Principal District and Sessions Judge, Nagpur, S.C. Munghate, has been transferred and appointed as General Manager of the Bombay High Court.
The High Court has also appointed M.R. Washimkar, currently serving as Deputy Manager at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, as the Judge of the Labour Court, Nagpur.
The notification includes several other key appointments across Maharashtra. S.L. Anekar, Chief Judge of the Mumbai Court of Small Causes, has been posted as the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Hingoli, while A.S. Shende, Special Officer in the office of the Chief Justice, has been appointed Principal Judge of the Mumbai City Civil and Sessions Court.
Further, S.C. Khati, General Manager of the Bombay High Court, has been appointed Principal Secretary, Law and Judiciary Department, while S.S. Adkar, Principal Judge of the Mumbai City Civil and Sessions Court, has been transferred as Chief Judge of the Mumbai Court of Small Causes.
The High Court has also appointed T.S. Akali, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Hingoli, as the Member Secretary of the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority, succeeding Azmi.
In another key posting, Moreshwar Kulkarni, Manager at the Bombay High Court, has been appointed City Sessions Judge, Dindoshi.
The reshuffle also includes the transfer of D.S. Ghumre, Principal Secretary of the Law and Judiciary Department, Shailesh Deshpande, Secretary of the High Court Legal Services Committee, and G.P. Deshmukh, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Bombay High Court, as Judges of the Mumbai City Civil and Additional Sessions Court.
Judicial circles view the extensive administrative exercise as an effort to streamline court functioning and improve the delivery of justice across Maharashtra. In Nagpur, the appointment of M.S. Azmi is expected to usher in a new phase in the administration of the district judiciary.
