Major fire in building next to Ajni Traffic Office

Three shops belonging to Former Corporator Sanjay Tiwari gutted to ashes in minutes

IMG-20150407-WA0002Nagpur: Three shops situated in a building next to the compound of Ajni Traffic Office were gutted down in a major fire at around 11:30 pm on April 6, 2015.

The shops were identified as Babla Scooters, Raj Telecom, Sonu Hair Dressers and Dimple Photo Studio. All these shops belong to Former Corporator Sanjay Tiwari.

Eye-witnesses claim that they saw smoke emanating from the near the rear of a Bakery situated just behind the building. The owner of the building who had organized a Mahaprasad for Hanuman Jayanthi was in close vicinity of the shops, when someone told him about the fire.

He soon rushed to the spot and along with a few volunteers tried to put out the fire. However, soon the fire turned into a raging inferno and all the three shops situated adjacent to each other caught fire. The oil cans, grease, petrol cans and all such things needed for repairing of two-wheelers in Babla Scooters burned with raging fire. The combustible and other inflammable material in other shops too added fuel to the fire.

One after the other four fire extinguishers arrived at the scene to put out the fire. The personnel of the fire department succeeded in extinguishing the fire at around 12: 30 am.

The residents who live in the Railway quarters near the spot had gathered in large numbers to witness the raging fire. The police personnel and the fire department personnel had a difficult time to keeping the onlookers at bay. The entire area was filled with acrid smoke.

Till the filling of the story, the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Four fire tenders from Civil Lines Fire Department, Narendra Nagar Fire Department and Cotton Market Fire Department were dispatched to bring the fire under control. The exact amount of loss also could not be ascertained till the writing of the story.
