Nagpur: A major fire broke out in Sunita dress,a large showroom that sells oswal wollen goods near Lakshmi Bhavan Square in Dharampeth,reduced the showroom to ashes, here on Thursday evening.
The owner was informed at 07:00 pm that a thick smoke was bellowing from his store. Mean while chairman of nmc dharampeth zone Varsha Thakare reached the spot and stared calling the fire deppt.
Three fire tendors were pressed into service to douse the fire. With the help of volentiers, by standers,fire deppt personals. The shutter which got jammed was broken to gain entery into the shop. After breaking the shutter the goods were brought out and pilled in front of other shops.
Meanwhile a youth was also caught stealing clothes from the pile of the goods taken out.
P.I. Hiware of traffic dept showed presence of mind and asked the MSEB to switch off the power supply. Cops from sitaburdi and amabazahri police stations rushed to the spot to control the croud. Goods that were stored on the mezzanine floor of the shop was completely destroyed.
Preliminary report suggested that shot circuit could be the main cause for the fire. The owner vijay jain while speaking ti nagpur today said that goods worth 20 to 30 lakhs were destroyed in the fire. Sources said that the owner has three shops in close vicinity to this shop.
