Nagpur: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, police seized nearly 65 kilograms of ganja from a taxi car in the Pardi Naka area of Nagpur. Two accused have been arrested in connection with the case, and investigations have revealed that the contraband was allegedly being transported from Odisha to Hyderabad.
According to police officials, the action was carried out by the Pardi Traffic Zone team during ‘Operation U-Turn’, a special drive against drunk driving. During the operation near Sharma Dhaba on the Hyderabad Bypass Road, officers stopped a taxi vehicle bearing an Andhra Pradesh registration number for routine inspection.
Although the driver tested negative in the alcohol test, police grew suspicious due to his unusual behaviour and a strong odor coming from the vehicle. A detailed search of the car led to the discovery of around 65 kg of ganja hidden beneath metal sheets inside the trunk.
Police arrested the two accused identified as Y. Chiranjeevi Megheshwar Rao, a resident of Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, and K. Bhima Raju Lakshman Rao from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that they had been assigned the task of transporting the ganja from Odisha to Hyderabad.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Pardi Police Station, and police are now investigating the mastermind behind the trafficking network.
