Maithili, Navpreet for Mahila basketball nationals

Nagpur News: City cagers Maithili Pantawane and Navpreet Khurana have been picked to play for Maharashtra in the Mahila National Basketball Championship which began at the SAI Centre in Bhopal on December 19,2013.

In the four-day tourney teams from across the country are taking part. The Mahila competition is being organized under the Payka Scheme for girls below 25 years.

Both Maithili and Navpreet played for Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) in the state tourney held at Yavatmal recently. A decent show in the state meet and during the selection trials gave them a berth in the 12-member Maharashtra team.

Representing Nagpur division, the DKM girls’ team won bronze medal in the state meet.

While Maithili will play for Maharashtra for the second successive time, this will be the first time Navpreet has been selected for a National Basketball Tournament.

The five-day preparatory camp of the state team was held in the city.
Both the city cagers have been congratulated by the president of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) Sandip Joshi and other members of the district body.
