Maharashtra Day: Governor announces new initiatives of State Government in his address

The Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao unfurled the national tricolour and inspected the ceremonial parade on the occasion of 55th anniversary of the formation of the State of Maharashtra at a state function held at Shivaji Park, Mumbai on Friday (1 May).

Addressing the assembled gathering, the Governor assured that the state government will take every step to wipe out the tears of  and hailstorm in recent months.

Mentioning that ‘More Crop per Drop’ will be the guiding motto of the government for using water efficiently, the Governor appealed to Corprates to take up the ‘Jalyukta Shiavar Yojana’, a scheme of creating water storages in villages for harvesting rainwater, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The Government has plans to make 5000 villages drought-free through the scheme.

Mentioning that the ‘Make in Maharashtra’ initiative of the government has been receiving excellent response from investors, the Governor expressed the resolve of the government to simplify procedures and improve the ease of doing business in Maharashtra.


The Governor announced the launch of the ‘Late Pramod Mahajan Skill Development Scheme’ under which new schemes of skill development would be launched and other existing schemes clubbed. He informed that German company Bosch will be taking over 25 Industrial Training Institutes in the State to provide state-of-the-art vocational training to students.

The Governor said that the State will be observing the year 2017 as ‘Visit Maharashtra Year’ to boost tourism in the State. (text of Governor’s speech enclosed)

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Guardian Minister of Mumbai Subhash Desai, Mayor Snehal Ambekar, members of the Diplomatic Community, officers of the Armed Forces, State police and administration were present on the occasion.

The Governor accompanied by the Chief Minister later attended the Maharashtra Day celebrations organised by the Mayor of Mumbai at Mayor’s Bungalow.
