Nagpur: The Congress Party has released its first list of 48 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, with a significant focus on key constituencies in Nagpur. Senior leaders like Nitin Raut (North Nagpur), Vikas Thakre (West Nagpur), Bunty Shelke (Central Nagpur), and Praful Gudadhe (South-West Nagpur) have been selected to contest.
Notably, the party has left South Nagpur vacant, as East Nagpur has been allotted to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) under the alliance’s seat-sharing agreement. Meanwhile, the four rural Nagpur seats are still undecided.

State Congress President Nana Patole will contest from Sakoli, and Vijay Wadettiwar, Leader of Opposition, from Bramhapuri. Despite high expectations, the first list did not introduce any new faces from Vidarbha.
This announcement follows the tri-party alliance’s seat-sharing formula, where Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena (UBT) will each contest 85 seats. The remaining 23 constituencies, including some in Nagpur, are expected to be announced soon, potentially accommodating smaller allies like the Samajwadi Party and CPI.
