Nagpur: Nandanvan police, in a well-planned operation, traced a man and arrested him on the charges of opening a bogus Facebook account in the name of a woman and writing obscene messages in the social network. The fictitious Facebook account put the woman in a terrible dilemma as she started receiving phone calls from unknown persons asking for ‘her company.’
The Nandanvan police had, on January 25, 2016, registered a complaint lodged by the victim woman regarding opening of a fake Facebook account in her name. Even a photograph of the woman was also pasted on the bogus account. After confirming the Facebook account was bogus one, cops started an in-depth investigation into the matter to trace the real culprit. During the probe, the cops spotted a mobile phone number but the address of the phone user was incomplete. The cops then scanned the number by way of “To Caller” and found the holder as Prateek (Name changed). The complaining woman was then asked about whether she knew any Prateek among her relatives and friends. Further probe found that a relative of the woman was knowing Prateek. With this information, cops launched a massive search operation and finally traced Prateek. A sustained questioning of Prateek revealed that he used to purchase all the free sim cards of different companies and later used to either destroy or distribute them among his friends. The four friends who were distributed the free cards were zeroed in by the cops and it came to know that one of the friends Vijay Deepak Fulwani was possessing the wanted number’s sim card.
Thereafter, the complainant woman was asked about Vijay Fulwani who incidentally happened be her friend’s brother. The woman told the cops that Vijay kept chasing her since the past one year with the motive of socializing with her and sending messages in a kind of one-way love affair. The subsequent scan of Vijay’s mobile phone revealed that the bogus ID was created on the Facebook and the Facebook contained the woman’s phone number and vulgar scripts. Mentioning of the phone number and obscene writing put the woman in a fix as she started receiving calls from unknown persons ‘soliciting her company.’ Such calls put the woman under severe strain, mentally.
On the basis of the woman’s complaint and a thorough probe, Nandanvan cops booked the accused Vijay Fulwani under Sections 354-D, 469 of IPC and placed him under arrest.
