Locals lynch history sheeter in Nagpur

Nagpur: Tension gripped Shanti Nagar residents after a notorious goon and member of Raja gang was brutally lynched by locals in Shanti Nagar area on Sunday night.

The latest incident brought back memories of notorious goon Akku Yadav’s murder. Yadav, a history-sheeter who was facing 28 criminal offences and had allegedly become nuisance for the people in Kasturba Nagar area, was lynched by an angry mob in the courtroom on August 13, 2004.

According to police, Viju alias Vijay Waghdhare (30), a resident Bel Nagar, bashed up a youth at Zenda Chowk on Sunday evening. The youth returned to his house in Prem Nagar area and narrated the incident to his family. Locals gathered and inquired about the incident. Two friends of Vijay also came to the spot. The residents asked them to intervene into the matter.

Meanwhile, Vijay came to Pram Nagar area and started abusing his friends and others. The friends got angered and attacked him. They smashed Vijay’s head with stones and bricks, police officials said. Vijay collapsed on the ground and died on the spot.

A case under Section 302 and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered by Shanti Nagar police against the accused.
