No more does your quest for that perfect pizza, risotto pasta or crunchy yet cheese smothered nachos have to take you to a metro like Pune, Mumbai or Banglore.
Little Italy / Little India has come to Nagpur, situated in the greenest niche of the city, in front of Vasantrao Deshpande hall, Civil lines. As you are comfortably seated in the tastefully done up, glass fronted restaurant, all you will see outside are old Nagpur trees nodding at you, and all you will hear is people talking at other tables. (Yes, in Nagpur, that can get quite loud too!!) But there will be no blaring horns, screech of traffic and resultant pollution.
The biggest ‘good news’ of it all is that dining in Little Italy in Nagpur will not burn a hole in your pocket like in other ‘big cities’.
Yes, this is a genuine, 100% authentic franchise of the same Little Italy chain that has its origins in Pune, but the owners Ushma and Harmandeep were given the freedom to price it as they thought best and keeping prices low was their honest endeavour.
“ Even if you order starters and main course, the average cost per person does not exceed Rs. 400/ to Rs. 500/. This is because our portion size is very generous. Many of our signature dishes like Cheese Fondue, which is accompanied by a side offering of exotic vegetables and bread, can be shared easily by four!”
People who do not anticipate the large food portion end up over ordering and then carrying home food parcels! (Though the friendly staff will help you with your orders if it’s your first visit).
The Food itself – As the name suggests there is the full range of Italian pizzas, pastas, salads etc. Topped with 5-6 different choice of cheese. (All made by the Little Italy company themselves in Pune). Even blue cheese is available! There is a fair choice of Mexican and all your favourite Indian dishes too.
Chef Rajan, who has come down from Pune to take charge of the Nagpur franchise has 19 years of experience much of it cooking at Little Italy restaurants only.
Made to your taste – Food connoisseurs are aware that most international restaurants will indicate spice content through colours on the menu.
In Little Italy, every dish can be made as per your appetite of spice. They can make any dish from zero spice to the Peri – peri level with tabasco content so high that you will have to douse it with a cold drink!
This wide range has been made available consciously since the very popular all India franchise has 33 outlets all over the country and they are used to serving a crowd of fussy foreigners in Jaipur to spice loving crowds of Juhu Mumbai or apna Nagpur!!
Also every dish can be made in its Jain version without garlic and onion. Equally tasty and flavourful.
Ushma also points out that since everything, including the exotic desserts are made in house there is no chance of eggs being used in any preparation.
Yes, Little Italy is 100% vegetarian and proud to be so!
(There is party venue above the restaurant that can be booked for exclusive parties with made to order menus.)
