Nagbhid PSI Chide was crushed under liquor laden Scorpio van when tried to stop it

Nagpur: In a senseless act, liquor mafia on Tuesday killed a Police Sub Inspector (PSI) of Nagbhid Police Station in ‘dry’ Chandrapur district. A Mahindra Scorpio van transporting liquor crushed the PSI Chhatrapati Chide on duty. The police officer died on the spot. The outrageous incident occurred around 8.30 am on Tuesday. The driver of the Scorpio fled the spot along with his vehicle and is being hunted.

Sale of liquor is banned in Chandrapur district making the first “dry” district in Maharashtra. However, despite the ban, liquor is smuggled by mafia in the district from different parts of the State and country. Earlier also, three cops lost their lives while curbing the activities of liquor mafia.

According to police sources, the PSI Chhatrapati Chide of Nagbhid Police Station was on duty around 8.30 am to curb smuggling of liquor. During the same time, the PSI tried to stop the Scorpio van transporting liquor. But instead of stopping his vehicle, the driver speeded up the Scorpio and crushed him under the wheels. The fatally injured PSI Chide died on the spot. The Scorpio driver fled the spot soon after killing the PSI.

On being informed, police registered a case and launched a massive manhunt to nab the driver and seize the vehicle.

Details are awaited.
