LBT search & seizure operations conducted at Mercury Motors, other traders for tax default

Local Body Tax Department on Saturday conducted search & seizure operation at M/s Mercury Motors, Gandhi Grain Market, C.A. Road, Chhapru Nagar here. The establishment is owned by Anuj Jejani who runs business of sale of Mahindra two-wheelers.

During the search and seizure operation, the LBT officials found that he firm existed since 2009 but the dealer has not obtained the LBT registration. The dealer has imported vehicles and spare parts worth Rs.1,18,15,500 approximately till date but neither obtained any registration nor made any LBT payments. Moreover, the dealer has not maintained purchases in ‘D’ register as required under the rules. Department has seized some purchase invoices and purchase accounts from the dealer and the dealer has ensured to submit the remaining purchase invoices till 8.12.2014.

Surprisingly, the raiding officials in the instant case found that the Regional Transport Office has been registering the vehicles without confirming the LBT payments even though notified not to do so by the department.

Another search and seizure action was initiated on M/s Bag Shop (Bengali Bag), Senior Bhonsla Palace, Mahal, Nagpur; owned by Rameshchandra Saw. The dealer is trading in canvas bags. The dealer is registered under LBT but has neither made any LBT payments nor filed annual return for the financial year 2013-14. Rameshchandra Saw informed to have imported goods worth Rs. 5 lakh since inception of LBT till date but has not maintained the purchase register. The department has seized sales bills, purchase invoices and transport builties available at the time of operation.

Similarly, such operation was carried at M/s Rameshchandra Bag House, Near Bata Showroom, Mahal, Nagpur; owned by Pramod Ramesh Jaiswal. The dealer’s purchases from outside and local dealer amounted to Rs 6 lakh approximately. The dealer has not obtained LBT registration. The department has seized some purchase invoices and will assess the LBT liability of the dealer.

The action was initiated as per the directions of Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane and Addl. Dy. Mpl. Commissioner Pramod Bhusari under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner (LBT) Milind Meshram by LBT Officers Yadav Jambhulkar and Vyanktesh Jichkar; Assistant LBT Officers Sanjay Mendule, Sumer Gajbhiye, Vilas Chahande, Ramesh Paddhan, Ramesh Giri, Dnyaneshwar Dhote and Ulhas Motghare; Junior Inspectors Vijay Chetnani and Assistants Sanjay Gudadhe, Khapekar, Mehrulia, Kazi and Dilip Choudhari. Police Constables Rupesh Makote, Bhaskar Hanumate, Prakash Dhage and Nitin Tiwari were also part of the search and seizure operation.
