Nagpur: In response to call made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for starting ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyan’ the volunteers of ‘Rani Laxmibai Durga Utsav Mandal’ at Laxmi Nagar, took an initiative to clean the volleyball ground in near Aath Rasta Sqaure, which was in pathetic conditions.
The youngsters, including girls and women, were joined by former international cricketer and resident of Laxmi Nagar Prashant Vaidya who guided them. Even the local residents joined the Mandal activists in large numbers in making the ground clean.
The ground was in shabby condition with garbage strewn everywhere as builders making buildings in adjoining areas had dumped the material and waste. Even nearby residences had made a habit of throwing their household garbage on the playground and thus turning it into a dumping yard. . Despite being a playground, it was crowded by cows and buffaloes from nearby areas and stray dogs.
Ultimately, the mandal volunteers decided to take task on themselves after the call given by the honourable prime minister. They bought brooms and hand gloves by collecting money from their own pockets and started their campaign in the morning. In couple of hours, they collected heaps of garbage and that included plastic bottles, plastic bags, stones, cow and buffalo litter, unused items among others.
Headed by Prasanna Mohile, the Mandal had been doing such noble initiatives as a part of its social responsibility. During Navratri festivals, the Mandal regularly organises, blood donation camps and tree plantation drives. This time the Mandal has helped the Sanmvedna School for autism by giving popularity to its cause.
