The annual UMANG Cup Golf Tournament unfolded a riveting display of skill and sportsmanship at the renowned Kamptee Club on March 16th and 17th, 2024. With more than a hundred players showcasing their prowess across various categories, the event stood as a testament to the city’s vibrant golfing community.
The tournament, conducted in the competitive System 36 format, saw Mr. Lav Bajaj emerging triumphant, clinching the coveted winner’s title. Lav’s strategic play, marked by 9 pars and 1 birdie led to an impressive gross score of 80. He Succeeded by adapting his strategy & play to the changed course conditions after rains the previous evening. The highlight of his game came on the very difficult 180 yards Par 3 Hole number 17 which is surrounded by bunkers, trees and big hazard, wherein he hit his 6 iron to 8 feet from the pin and promptly converted it into a birdie by making the winding downhill putt.
He stated that “knowing your stock yardages with every golf club is key to a good score in addition to an immaculate short game”. This marks Lav Bajaj’s first victory of the season.
The Kamptee Club’s course conditions were lauded by participants, with management ensuring impeccable arrangements, contributing to the overall success of the tournament. The event’s accolades were distributed as follows:
