Lady Treasury Clerk dupes Rs 17.5 lakhs from pensioners

crime 1Nagpur: Greed for money has led many to commit crimes. These crimes need not be fatal crimes alone. Some use their sharp mind to swindle, cheat or even misappropriate money from others. In a similar incident, a lady used the password of treasury department and misappropriated around 17.5 lakhs from other account holders.

The accused identified as Upasna Suresh Khangale aged 27 years and a resident of Plot No 30, Gondwana Nagar, Beltirodi, while in Government service as Clerk in Government Treasury had misappropriated and siphoned off an amount of Rs 17, 39, 780/- by tampering with the computerized accounts of the retirement benefits extended to Pensioners, Family Pension to the widows of government servants misusing the Computer Password of the Treasury Account between May 15, 2012 to December 26, 2014, thereby cheating the government.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by Additional Treasury Officer Vikas Madhavrao Ravulkar aged 44 years and a resident of 104-B, Maruti Apartment Swami Samarth Colony, Jingabai Takli, Nagpur, Police Sub Inspector Vargad of Sadar Police Station registered a case against the accused Upasana Khangale under section 420, 406 of Indian Penal Code and under section 66 and 66(D) of Information Technology Act 2008. The Sadar Police is since investigating the case.
