Lady social activist performs last rites for her Security Guard

Archana Bhoyar lighting the funerral pyreNagpur: In another rare and unique incident, a lady social activist who fights for the rights of women performed the last rights of the security guard working in her Petrol Pump on March 8, 2016.

The lady social activist is none other than Archana Bhoyar. She had many invitations and was invited to be Chief Guests at many places, yet she chose to fore-go all the programmes to perform the last rites of the security guard for the last many years.

The name of the deceased is identified as Raviram Ganesh Katute aged 24 years. He was working in the petrol pump for the last four years. His parents had passed away long time back. He has an elder brother, Maternal Uncle and aunty (mama and mami), Paternal uncle and aunty (chaha chichi) yet no one came forward even to get him admitted into the hospital when he was seriously sick and was suffering from Tuberculosis (TB).

It was Archana Bhoyar who had got him admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital. Even after being told of his demise on March 8, 2016, the relatives did not even come to identify him in the hospital or to take the responsibility of performing the last rites.

The deceased youth used to stay near the petrol pump only. A slum area exists in that area where at least 500 families reside, yet no one from the slum area came forward to perform the last rites. She then decided to take a car full of people from Nagpur and performed the last rites of the deceased youth.

Finally Archana Bhoyar, dashing lady that she is set a new precedence on International Woman’s Day and performed all the last rites and even lit the pyre which is never done by any woman so far.

If that was not enough, on March 9, 2016, she performed the follow-up prayers performed the next day of the death in accordance with Hindu rites and had gone and performed the Asti Viserjan too.

Archana performing the last ritesWhile speaking to Nagpur Today, Archana Bhoyar said that the need of the hour today is more than the education it is humanity and humanitarian considerations that has to be inculcated among the youth today. She added that the young generation should avoid all types of intoxicating habits since the deceased security guard too used to imbibe alcohol and smoke bidis and cigarettes continuously. She added that when an eventuality occurs, not even blood relatives come forward to help or perform the last rites. The deceased Ravi Katute had a good Samaritan Archana Bhoyar to perform the last rites, everybody may not be so lucky.
