Nagpur:
In a major breakthrough, Kotwali police have busted a one-member gang of vehicle lifter and nabbed the mastermind who acted like modern ‘Robin Hood’ by selling the stolen two-wheelers only to poor people at cheaper prices. The arrested vehicle lifter has been identified as Deepak Vyas. Cops have seized 30 two-wheelers of different make from Deepak’s possession. One more startling fact that has come to the fore is that the hardcore vehicle stealer fooled his customers by telling them that he is working in a finance company and selling the ‘seized’ two-wheelers. Deepak would tell one more lie that the vehicles were ‘seized’ by the finance company for default of payments. But the true fact is that the accused Deepak Vyas is a hardened vehicle lifter.

According to police, the accused Deepak used to steal two-wheelers from different areas of the city and sell them in rural areas of Chandrapur District to prospective buyers at cheaper rates. Mostly, Deepak’s customers are milk vendors, vegetable shoppers, petty shopkeepers and other poor people.

Kotwali Police Inspector S Bhoyar and his team netted the one-member gang of Deepak Vyas after laying a trap. The trap was outcome of a tip-off the cops received from a tipster. In all 30 two-wheelers have been seized from the mastermind and some of his customers as well. In a well-planned modus operandi to fool the buyers, the accused Deepak would tell them that the ‘seized’ two-wheelers are being sold by him at cheaper prices. The vehicles were ‘seized’ by the finance company where he works for non-payment of dues.

Cops are grilling the master vehicle lifter to ascertain whether any other person was involved in the thefts.
