Kanhan: 3 Arrested with 9 Kg Ganja, ₹12.12 Lakh Seized

Nagpur: The Nagpur Rural Police’s Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) team arrested three persons in Kanhan for allegedly transporting and supplying ganja. Police seized around 9 kg of ganja, an SUV, three mobile phones and cash, with the total value of the seized property estimated at ₹12.12 lakh.

According to police, NDPS team personnel received confidential information that a person carrying ganja from Odisha would arrive in the Kanhan area to supply the contraband. Acting on the information, the police increased surveillance in the area and monitored suspicious movements.

Based on the tip-off, the team detained three suspects and conducted a search. Police allegedly recovered 9 kg of ganja, valued at approximately ₹1.80 lakh.

The arrested accused have been identified as Suraj Rajendra Chavan (30), a resident of Dighoda, Uttar Pradesh; Himanshu Nandlal Sharma (26), also from Dighoda, Uttar Pradesh; and Shubham Kapildev Shahi (32), a resident of Kanhan.

SUV and Other Property Seized

Apart from the ganja, police seized an XUV-300 bearing registration number UP 57 BP 7610, valued at around ₹10 lakh. Three mobile phones worth approximately ₹30,000 and ₹2,500 in cash were also recovered.

The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹12,12,500.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the ganja was brought from Odisha and transported to Kanhan for further distribution. Police are now investigating the source of the contraband and identifying the persons to whom it was allegedly intended to be supplied.

Joint Police Operation

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar, Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Maske and the Kanhan Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The NDPS team included API Ajit Singh Devar, PSI Pravin Bhimate, Pravin Devhare, Amrut Kinge, Prakash Dhoke, NAPOC Amol Nagare, police personnel Anil and driver Avinash Tumdam.

The Local Crime Branch and Kanhan Police Station teams also assisted in the operation. PSI Gupta and police personnel Pranit Dahivale from Kanhan Police Station participated in the action.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway. Police are attempting to trace the wider network allegedly involved in the transportation and distribution of the ganja.
