Kamptee police rescue 37 bovines, one arrested

Nagpur: Kamptee police on Tuesday rescued 37 bovines who were being taken to a slaughter house and seized a Xenon pick-up van collectively worth Rs 3.5 lakh.

Cops have arrested accused Mohd Sharik Mohd Aslam (26) a resident of Bhajimandi in this connection while accused Wasim Qureshi, Liyaz Qureshi and Imran Qureshi are absconding.

During the night patrolling, cops received a tip-off that total 37 bovines were tied at a place behind Muslim Kabristan in Gautam Nagar, Ajani Shiwar. The bovines were later being taken to a slaughter house. Acting of information, the sleuths of DB Squad raided the spot at around 4 am on Tuesday morning and rescued all bovines.

The arrested accused Mohd Sharik Mohd Aslam and absconding Wasim Qureshi, Liyaz Qureshi and Imran Qureshi were booked under Section 11(1)(D) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act read with Sections 5(B), 9(A) of Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act.

The raid was conducted by PSI Jitendra Raut, Constables Dilip Kumre, Rupesh Durge, Manoj, Rahul and Krishna under the guidance of DCP Zone 5 Harsh Poddar, ACP Rajesh Pardeshi and Senior PI B D Dhere.
