Justicia 2016 inagurated by Justice Bhushan R Gawai

DSC_0068Nagpur: When new Lawyers enter this profession, it is the senior counselors with their immense experience mould them and make them into successful councellors who are in-turn useful to the society said Administrative Judge of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court Justice Bhushan R Gawai while inaugurating Justicia-2016. He started his speech by congratulating Principal District and Sessions Judge, District Court, Justice P V Ganediwala for becoming the first Woman Judge to become Principal District and Sessions Judge.

He lauded the efforts of the present office-bearers of District Bar Association who have organized many pro-active programmes for the benefit of the Lawyers’ fraternity. He lauded their success in procuring the promised funds for the new building, the new guidance seminars and lectures for the lawyers, training sessions for the candidates appearing for JMFC exams.

DSC_0093Minister for Energy (New & Renewal) Maharahstra & Guardian Minister of Nagpur District Chandrashekhar Bawankule while addressing the audience said that the present office-bearers and members of the District Bar Association have worked hard along with him to get the promised funds for the new building. He advised them to get the finest Architects and get the work started at the earliest. He assured to provide all the support for the construction of the new building. He also assured to provide any other infrastructural and financial support they need.

DSC_0077Earlier President of District Bar Association Prakash Jaiswal delivered the welcome address. He also delivered the apologies of Union Minister for Law and Justice D V Sadananda Gowda who had to cancel his coming for the Justicia at the last moment since he had to be in a meeting with Chief Justice of India at Hyderabad. He had all praise for the senior Justice, counselors who went on to become very successful judges. Adv Prakash Jaiswal took the audience to the time of freedom struggle and related that the then Indian members of District Bar Association had assembled at Variety Square and then walked to the Court. The Dagdi Building (stone building) was the then District Court. These Indian members of District Bar Association climbed the roof and unceremoniously brought the Union Jack down and hoisted the Indian Flag. Adv Jaiswal claimed that he was proud to be a member of such a District Bar Association. He went on to claim that he is also proud to be a member of the DBA where even the Chief Minister of the State Devendra Fadnavis is a life member. Adv Prakash Jaiswal thanked Principal District and Sessions Judge, District Court, Justice P V Ganediwala for coming to Justicia on the very first day.

 

Zero-Pendency in the next five years: Justice P V Ganediwala

Principal District and Sessions Judge of District Court Justice P V Ganediwala while addressing the audience said that she is happy to be here on the first day of her taking the office. She went on to propose her plans for the next five years.

Some of the prominent plans include Zero-Pendency in the next five years. She said that with the help of DBA and the Administrative Judge of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court Justice Bhushan R Gawai, she intends to remove the backlogs and bring all the cases up-to-date. She said that she intends to give a schedule or a time frame within which a trial date is given and is adhered to. She went on to claim that she will work on getting an ISO certification too. She also intends to start an Academy for the working Advocates just as they have for Judges.

Additional Solicitor General Advocate Anil Singh lauded the DBA for completing 140 years. He claimed that the contribution to legal services is unparalleled. He too claimed that Nagpur city has to its credit for bring out great legal luminaries. He advised the young lawyers and the members of the DBA to establish and retain the faith of the commoners on the Justice system. He went on to add that we need to work with preeminence.

Acting Advocate General of Maharashtra Advocate Rohit Deo, Senior Counsel Advocate Avinash Gupta and Advocate S K Mishra were felicitated during the programme for their contribution in moulding many lawyers in the city.

Lecture programme titled Court Mantra “A word of Wisdom” where Administrative Judge, Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court Bench Hon’ble Justice B. R. Gavai delivered the lecture.

This was followed by a drama enacted by Advocates titled Kho Kholamba (Marathi Play) will be enacted. This will be followed by another Hindi Play titled
“Makan No. 144”.

 

The schedule of Saturday and Sunday is as follows
On Saturday, April 9, 2016

The Justicia programme is slated to start from 10 am to 12 pm. The programme will start with a debate competition on Topic “Media Trial Influences Public Opinion/Perception”. The Guest of Honour will be Judge of Bombay High Court Hon’ble Justice S.B. Shukre.

From 12 pm to 1:30 pm, a programme titled “Footsteps of Law in ancient India”will be start. A lecture on this topic will be delivered by Judge of Supreme Court of India Hon’ble Justice Sharad Bobde on Evidential Value of witness in Vedic Era.

From 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, another lecture programme titled “Back to Basics” will be held. The Guest of Honour will be Judge of Bombay High Court Justice A. B. Choudhary.

Another very interesting lecture on Electronic Evidence will be delivered by Dr. Harold D’Costa. Advocate Jayant Jaibhave will deliver a lecture on the vital subject, “How to exhibit documents in Evidence”.

From 5:30 pm to 7 pm there will Musical event titled “Geet Gata Chal”, Chief Guest of this event will be Bombay High Court Judge Justice P.B. Varale.

From 7 pm to 8 pm 125th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr, Babasaheb Ambedkar will be celebrated. The Guest of Honour will be Bombay High Court Judge, Justice Mil N.W. Sambre.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadanvis and Administrative Judge of Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court Justice E R Gavai will be speaking on this occassion.

From 8 pm to 10 pm a cultural evening will be held aptly titled “Umang” followed by Fashion Show and Dance event.

The Justicia programme on Sunday is slated to start with a lecture titled “Rashtranayak Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj” by Prof. Nitin Banugade Patil from 10 am to 12 pm, The Guest of Honour will be Judge of District Court, Nagpur P.S. Tarare.

From 12 pm to 2 pm, a lecture programme titled “What is expected from you Lawyer!” will be held. The Guest of Honour will be Honorable Judge of Bombay High Court Justice Z A Haq and speakers will be Dr Vedprakash Mishra and J M Gandhi.

From 2 pm to 3:30 pm, a programme titled Swayamsiddha will be held. The Guest of Honour will be Judge of Bombay High Court Justice S.S.

From 5:30 pm to 7 pm there will be programme title Valedictory Function. The Chief Guest will be Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. The President of the function will be Former Judge of Supreme Court of India and Chairperson of Competition Appellate Tribunal of New Delhi (Retired Justice) V S Sirpurkar and the Guest of Honour will be Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court.

From 8 pm to 11 pm there will be a Commercial Drama titled “Shri Bai Samarth” from 8 pm to 11 pm.
